Environmental Street Furniture (ESF) is a W.T. Burden Ltd company.
The founder
of the business, Wilfred Thomas Burden, gifted a substantial proportion of his shareholding to create the Burdens Charitable Foundation (BCF.) Unlike many foundations of equivalent size, BCF has chosen not to employ marketing organisations or fund raisers, preferring instead that all of its income goes to selected causes. Increasingly BCF has chosen to focus its resources on direct aid to one of the poorest areas of the world, currently sub Saharan Africa.
The most recent example is "La Renaissance", a project to build and run initially one school to
provide education for orphaned, abandoned and disabled (visually impaired) children
in Burkina Faso, West Africa, one of the poorest countries in the world.
An education for an otherwise disabled African child provides him or her with the skills to allow them to contribute to their local society and in doing so support themselves. This is one of the win-win situations so vitally needed in those parts of the world yet to achieve the economic strength of places such as the UK.
Burdens Charitable Foundation is a registered charity. Registered charity number 273535. And BCF is a member of the Association of Charitable Foundations.
